Jurrien Timber News: Ajax Defender Praised By Virgil van Dijk
Jurrien Timber news: Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk has heaped praise on his Netherlands teammate Jurrien Timber.
Van Dijk described Timber as a great player and claimed the 21-year-old Ajax defender is a better player than he was at that age.
Timber has been playing for Ajax’s senior team since making his debut for them in March 2020. He has since featured in 84 games for the Dutch outfit and has also scored four goals for the club.
Van Dijk has now lavished praise on his Netherlands teammate, who he said is a great player and true professional’.
The Liverpool defender also said Timber has so much potential, and expressed hope he can further develop that.
“He has so much potential. Hopefully, he can develop further. Then it will be all right, I think.”
Meanwhile, Van Dijk, Timber, and Nathan Ake formed the back three in the two games the Netherlands have played during the September international break.
The Netherlands secured a 2-0 win over Poland in the first of those two matches. They then faced Belgium in their next match and sealed a 1-0 win. And it was Van Dijk who scored the winner for the Netherlands.
With the win over Belgium, the Netherlands also sealed their spot in the UEFA Nations League semi-finals. Netherlands progressed to the semi-finals after topping League A Group 4 with 16 points.
Meanwhile, Timber had attracted transfer interest from Manchester United in the summer transfer window. Timber, however, opted to remain at Ajax. He has since signed a new contract with the Dutch outfit. His current contract with Ajax runs until 2025.
Although Man Utd failed in their pursuit of Timber, the Red Devils signed two players from Ajax in the summer transfer window. They landed both Lisandro Martinez and Antony from Ajax, with the duo reuniting with Erik ten Hag at the Old Trafford outfit.
