Juventus transfer news: The Old Lady wants to soon complete the signing of Memphis Depay on a free transfer.
Depay joined Barcelona only last summer on a free transfer after his contract with Lyon expired. Depay’s compatriot Ronald Koeman was the Barcelona manager at the time. Barcelona have since replaced Koeman with Xavi – the Spanish outfit parted ways with the Dutch manager in October 2021.
Depay saw his game time gradually drop since the departure of Koeman, and he is now discussing contract termination with Barcelona.
Romano reveals Juventus will soon send the agreement documents to Depay’s camp as they look to close the deal. He adds that Depay’s camp will be in contact with Barca to discuss the termination of his contract.
Since joining Barcelona in the 2021 summer transfer window, Depay has featured in 38 games for the Catalan outfit. He has also scored a respectable 13 goals from those appearances. He has also provided two assists.
However, Depay has seen his game time reduce since Barcelona sacked Koeman. Depay was a regular starter under Koeman. In Xavi’s first games as the Barcelona manager, the Spaniard had also included Depay in the starting XI. But following two injuries – a hamstring injury and an Achilles Tendon problem – he has only made it to the Barcelona starting XI on six occasions.
Depay could see his game time further limited if he stays at Barcelona, with the Catalan outfit having bolstered the attacking department in the summer transfer window. Barca have signed Robert Lewandowksi from Bayern Munich and Raphinha from Leeds United.
Depay was an unused substitute when Barcelona played Rayo Vallecano in their La Liga 22/23 season opener.
However, Depay’s move to Juventus depends on Barcelona agreeing to terminate his contract with the club.
