Lionel Messi: Will He Feature For PSG in French Cup Round-of-16 Match?

Lionel Messi starred for Paris Saint-Germain in their most recent fixture as the Argentine superstar netted the winner for the defending Ligue 1 champions in their 2-1 comeback win over Toulouse in the French top-flight.

It was another impressive display from Lionel Messi, who has been sensational for Paris Saint-Germain in the current campaign. The Argentine attacker joined Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer in the summer of 2021 after his contract with Barcelona had expired.

After a rather underwhelming 21/22 season with PSG, Lionel Messi has looked back to his best for the French heavyweights in the ongoing 22/23 campaign.

Lionel Messi will be hoping to produce another impressive display for Paris Saint-Germain when they square off with Marseille in the round of 16 of the French Cup in their next game.

The 35-year-old footballing icon is part of the squad Paris Saint-Germain have announced for the fixture. Meanwhile, Neymar Jr, who missed PSG’s 2-1 win over Toulouse, returns from the injury and also features in the PSG squad for the Marseille clash.

Kylian Mbappe, who picked up an injury during Paris Saint-Germain’s 3-1 win over Montpellier in Ligue 1 in their first game of February 2023, is still out of action. The French attacker does not feature in the PSG squad for their round-of-16 match in the French Cup.

Meanwhile, PSG secured their place in the round of 16 of the French Cup after their romping their way to a 7-0 win over Pays de Cassel in the round of 32.

Kylian Mbappe starred for PSG in that game, bagging five goals. Neymar Jr and Carlos Soler scored a goal as PSG trounced Pays de Cassel.

Lionel Messi has featured in 24 games across all competitions for Paris Saint-Germain so far in the 22/23 season. He has racked up 15 goals and 14 assists in that fixture and will be aiming to add to his tally when PSG takes on Marseille.
