Liverpool Suffer Darwin Nunez Injury Blow Ahead of Real Madrid Clash
Liverpool have suffered a blow ahead of their Champions League round of 16 first-leg clash with Real Madrid after Darwin Nunez suffered an injury during the Merseyside outfit’s most recent fixture.
Liverpool cruised to a 2-0 win over Newcastle United in the Premier League as the Reds picked up a second consecutive win. Goals from Darwin Nunez and Cody Gakpo in the first half helped Liverpool get the better of Newcastle United.
Darwin Nunez sent Liverpool ahead in the 10th minute of the match before Cody Gakpo doubled their advantage in the 17th minute. Liverpool then saw off the game against a Newcastle United side who were reduced to 10 men after Nick Pope saw a red card in the 22nd minute.
However, Darwin Nunez was subbed off in the 59th minute of the match after the attacker picked up an apparent shoulder injury.
Liverpool will be hoping the injury that Darwin Nunez has picked up is not serious and he could be back in action soon.
Speaking after the match against Newcastle United, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp was unsure about the extent of the injury Darwin Nunez has sustained. However, Klopp was hopeful the injury is not serious.
Meanwhile, Liverpool sits eighth in the Premier League points table. The Merseyside outfit have 35 points from 22 matches in the English top flight so far this season. They are now six points behind fourth-placed Newcastle United, who have 41 points from 23 matches. Liverpool have a game in hand over the Magpies.
Meanwhile, the match between Liverpool and Real Madrid at Anfield kicks off at 1:30 am Indian Standard Time on February 22.
