Man City Proved They Can Without Haaland, Says Kevin De Bruyne After 1-0 Victory Over Leicester

Manchester City have proven they can win matches without Erling Haaland in their 1-0 victory over Leicester City, according to Kevin de Bruyne.

The defending Premier League champions had left Haaland out of the squad to face Leicester City after the striker sustained a knock during their Champions League match against Borussia Dortmund earlier this week.

Man City registered a win in their fixture against Leicester City, with a spectacular free-kick goal from De Bruyne earning Pep Guardiola’s men all three points.

After a goalless first half, De Bruyne sent Man City ahead in the 48th minute of the match. He scored from a free-kick – awarded after Leicester City conceded a foul on Jack Grealish in a dangerous position. The Belgian’s effort from the free-kick went in off the post in what would prove to be the winner.

Speaking after the match, De Bruyne said they have proven they can win in the absence of Haaland.

The 22-year-old instantly hit the ground running at his new club and has already racked up 22 goals across all competitions.

Haaland has scored 17 goals in the Premier League from just 11 appearances. That includes three hat-tricks scored against Manchester United, Crystal Palace, and Nottingham Forest.

The Norwegian international has also bagged five goals in four appearances in the Champions League for Manchester City.

Meanwhile, the win over Leicester City takes Man City to the top of the Premier League points table, at least temporarily. The Manchester outfit have 29 points from 12 matches in the Premier League so far this season.

They are a point clear of Arsenal, who sit second with 28 points. But the Gunners have a game in hand, having played only 11 matches in the league so far this season. Arsenal takes on Nottingham Forest in their next match in the Premier League and will return to the Premier League summit if they win on Sunday.
