Manchester United News: Erik ten Hag Sends ‘Fitness’ Message to Cristiano Ronaldo
Man Utd news: Manager Erik ten Hag has said he will be Cristiano Ronaldo’s friend or teacher depending on the situation.
Meanwhile, Man Utd have played five games in the Premier League so far this season, and Ronaldo has made it to the starting XI just once.
He has so far been a bit-part player – a role he is not used to – under Ten Hag. Ronaldo has also not yet scored a goal for Man Utd this season despite featuring in five games.
Ten Hag has fielded a starting XI that did not have Ronaldo in Man Utd’s last three games. Speaking ahead of Man Utd’s next match, Ten Hag said he will be the striker’s friend or teacher depending on the situation.
The Dutch manager also admitted he has concerns over Ronaldo’s fitness after he missed the Red Devils’ pre-season tour of Thailand and Australia.
Ten Hag also said Man Utd have changed the way they play and that Ronaldo has to contribute more in and out of possession.
“It is a base and especially in the game we play, the way of play. We play another type compared to last year. It depends on the demands, cooperation, and certain positioning [of players], in and out of position, and the other thing is fitness.”
Meanwhile, Man Utd have bounced back after a difficult start to the season. The Old Trafford outfit had succumbed to defeats in their first two matches but have won the three games they have played since.
Man Utd will be looking to make it four wins on the trot when they host Arsenal at Old Trafford in their next game. Arsenal comes into the game as league leaders, having won all five matches they have played.
The match between Man Utd and Arsenal kicks off at 9:00 pm Indian Standard Time.
