Manchester United Reach Verbal Agreement to Sign Wout Weghorst on Loan

Wout Weghorst: Manchester United have reached a verbal agreement to sign Netherlands international Wout Weghorst on a loan deal until the end of the season, according to a report in The Guardian.

Wout Weghorst, who plays for Besiktas on a season-long loan deal from Premier League club Burnley, emerged as a transfer target for the Red Devils and he is now close to completing his loan move to the Old Trafford outfit.

Wout Weghorst is considered as a short-term option for Manchester United in attack for the remainder of the season.

As part of the deal, Manchester United have agreed in principle to pay about €3m to Besiktas to end Wout Weghorst’s loan. The Red Devils would then sign Wout Weghorst on loan from Burnley.

Meanwhile, Besiktas will only sanction Wout Weghorst’s exit from the club if they find the right replacement for the Netherlands international. Weghorst, who joined Besiktas at the start of the 22/23 season, has been impressive for the Turkish outfit and has scored nine goals in 18 appearances for them.

Wout Weghorst: Meanwhile, The Guardian report that Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag views Weghorst as an ‘ideal solution for a stopgap centre-forward’. The Red Devils are currently light in options in attack following Cristiano Ronaldo’s exit from the club.

The Old Trafford outfit, however, have won all five games they have played since confirming Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure from the club. They currently sit fourth in the English Premier League points table with 35 points from 17 matches.

Erik ten Hag and co. are only behind table-toppers Arsenal, Manchester City, and Newcastle United in the points table. They trail Arsenal by nine points, and Manchester City by four points. They are also tied on points with Newcastle United, who have a better goal difference but have also played a game more than the Red Devils have.
