Manchester United Transfer News: Cody Gakpo’s stance on joining Red Devils

Manchester United news: The Red Devils are in search of attacking reinforcements, and have been linked with a number of players across Europe.

Ajax’s Brazilian winger Antony has attracted transfer interest from Man Utd, but the Dutch club’s valuation of the player has put the Red Devils off.

The Old Trafford-outfit also made a bid for Bologna striker Marko Arnautovic, which the Serie A side rejected. Man Utd have since pulled out from a move for Arnautovic.

As Man Utd continue their pursuit of bolstering the squad, the latest to have been linked with a move to the club is Cody Gakpo.

Gakpo plays for Eredivisie club PSV Eindhoven. The 23-year-old attacker primarily plays as left-winger but is also capable of playing as a centre-forward and right-winger.

Gakpo is PSV Eindhoven academy product and rose through their youth ranks to the senior team. He made his PSV senior team debut in 2018, and has since featured in 139 matches for the Dutch side. He has also scored 45 goals for the Rood-witten.

Gakpo made 47 appearances for PSV last season and scored an impressive 21 goals for the club. He has started the 22/23 season in fashion, already racking up three goals in four appearances.

The Red Devils have so far made three signings in the summer transfer window. They have landed 22-year-old Dutch left-back Tyrell Malacia from Feyenoord on a deal worth up to €17m. Malacia has signed a contract until 2026.

Christian Eriksen has also joined the club on a free transfer. Eriksen, who impressed during his short spell at Brentford, has signed a three-year contract with Man Utd.

Man Utd have also signed Lisandro Martinez from Ten Hag’s former club Ajax. The Argentine centre-back has penned a five-year contract at the club. Both Martinez and Eriksen made their competitive Man Utd debut when the Red Devils hosted Brighton & Hove Albion in their Premier League 2022/23 season opener.
