Marcel Sabitzer: Manchester United Eye Deadline Day Move For Bayern Munich Midfielder

Manchester United have approached Bayern Munich for Marcel Sabitzer amid confirmation that Christian Eriksen is set for an extended period on the sidelines due to an ankle injury.

Chelsea, who have been very active in the January transfer window, have also been linked with a move for Marcel Sabitzer.

Manchester United have confirmed that initial assessments of the injury Christian Eriksen has suffered indicate the Danish midfielder is likely to be out of action until late April or early May.

Christian Eriksen has been a key player for Manchester United in the ongoing 22/23 season. The injury to the midfielder has seen the Red Devils trying to sign Marcel Sabitzer as a deadline-day replacement for Eriksen.

Marcel Sabitzer has featured in 24 games for Bayern Munich in the current campaign. However, only 11 of those have been as a starter, with the rest being appearances off the bench.

The 28-year-old midfielder has a contract that runs until 2025 with Bayern Munich. That means he still has more than two years left on his current deal with the Bundesliga champions.

Meanwhile, reacting to the update on Christian Eriksen’s injury, Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag said they are disappointed.

Regarding signing a potential replacement for Christian Eriksen on the deadline day, Erik ten Hag said: “On deadline day it’s difficult. You can’t make policy on such bad injuries, but we have players in the midfield department – good players; we have players who can fill the gap.

Although Chelsea have been linked with Marcel Sabitzer, Fabrizio Romano reports that the Blues are busy with other deals.

It remains to be if Manchester United will manage to secure a deal for Marcel Sabitzer before the January transfer window slams shut.
