England national football team manager Gareth Southgate has admitted that the situation Harry Maguire finds himself in at Manchester United is ‘not a perfect scenario’.

Harry Maguire is no longer a regular starter at Manchester United and has struggled for game time at the Old Trafford outfit in the current campaign. Maguire has made 23 appearances for Manchester United so far this season, but 12 of those – which is more than half – have come as a substitute.

In the Premier League, Harry Maguire has featured in 11 games for Manchester United so far this season. But the England international has only started in five of those. The rest were appearances off the bench.

Harry Maguire has been named in the England squad for their upcoming UEFA 2024 Qualifiers matches against Italy and Ukraine. Gareth Southgate was asked about Harry Maguire’s situation at Manchester United, and the England manager admitted it is not a perfect scenario.

It’s not a perfect scenario,” Gareth Southgate said. “Harry has got two World Cup winners currently ahead of him in the (United) team and that’s the benchmark.

Gareth Southgate, however, praised Harry Maguire for his performances for England at FIFA World Cup 2022. Maguire was part of the England team that participated at Qatar 2022 and he was impressive for the Three Lions.

He dealt with it brilliantly in Qatar,” Gareth Southgate said. “His performances were exceptional. ‘He had a lot of pressure going into those games because the spotlight was on him, but he was, without doubt, one of our best players in the tournament.”

Meanwhile, Harry Maguire has a contract that runs until 2025 with Manchester United. That means he has more than two years left on his current deal with the Premier League. There is also an option to extend the contract by another 12 months.

Meanwhile, Manchester United will take on Fulham in the FA Cup quarter-final in their upcoming match. The Red Devils have already won the EFL Cup title, and they remain in contention for both FA Cup and Europa League titles.

In Europa League, they will face Sevilla in the quarter-finals of the competition. Manchester United, meanwhile, sits third in Premier League, but the Red Devils trail Arsenal by 16 and Manchester City by 11 points.
