Nottingham Forest News: Gaffer Steve Cooper defends Forrest’s 21 signing

Nottingham finished fourth in EFL Championship last season and won the playoffs to get promoted. However, being promoted to the Premier League and surviving in the English top tier is totally different.

The Premier League can be very cruel to newcomers and is known for its physicality and intensity. With the Qatar World Cup on the horizon, the games this season will come thick and fast. On top of that, Nottingham lost a huge amount of players. So expectedly if Nottingham will be able to even compete.

Forest manager Steve Cooper Nottingham Forest’s decision to do a major overhaul and sign 21 players in the summer transfer window.

The Nottingham manager reminded everyone that his team had five players on loan last season and top of that a few players whose contracts ran out. So they were planning to change things up even before the end of last season.

Speaking about building a whole new squad the gaffer said, “It’s a challenge that we embrace and relish. It’s brilliant to be back in the Premier League.”

The manager also seemed very happy with his current squad and the group of players he got. He thinks there will not much difference and his team will compete and play their brand of football.

When Forest secured their promotion by winning the EFL Championship playoffs, their owner Evangelos Marinakis promised suitable ‘ammunition’ to sustain in the Premier League.

Marinakis then went on to spend a huge number of £163.4 million on the incomings. To put more context into it, Nottingham actually has spent more money on the transfer than current Champions League winners Real Madrid and the Premier League champions Manchester City.

Marinakis signed 21 players for his team which could have 22 if the Michy Batshuayi deal did not fail on the transfer deadline day.

Among their 21 signings, probably the biggest names of the squad are Morgan Gibbs-White, Jesse Lingard and Dean Henderson. Forest’s manager praised his owner for showing “ambition” and also giving him a squad with which he can work.

After having spent £163.4 million on 21 signings, Forrest is clearly struggling to cope with the demands of the Premier League. They managed to win only one of their first six matches and have gathered four points.

Nottingham is currently at the nineteenth and is looking to eke out some results. Forest will face Leeds United in their next Premier League outing.
