Qatari Bid For Manchester United to Be Launched Before Feb 17 Deadline
There is a growing feeling that a Qatari bid for Manchester United will be launched before the mid-February deadline the Glazer family have set for interested parties to make their offer, according to reports.
The Glazer family, owners of Manchester United, are considering selling the company after the Old Trafford outfit announced in November that its Board of Directors are commencing a process to explore strategic alternatives for the club.
Interested parties who have signed a confidentiality agreement have reportedly been given access to a ‘data room’, which has details of Manchester United’s financials.
The English outlet also reports that Nasser Al-Khelaifi is set to be a key figure in any Qatari bid for Manchester United, even if the Paris Saint-Germain president could have no direct involvement with the Old Trafford outfit.
Paris Saint-Germain are owned by Qatar Sports Investment (QSi), whose chairman is Nasser Al-Khelaifi. BBC reported in January that QSi are looking for a minority stake in a Premier League club.
QSi could buy a minority stake in a Premier League club as it is allowed under UEFA rules that prevent multi-club ownership. However, QSi would not be able to buy Manchester United in its entirety under the current UEFA rules.
Hence, any Qatari bid for Manchester United would have to be made through private individuals or a different organization.
Meanwhile, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, one of Britain’s richest people and the chairman of INEOS chemicals group, has also expressed his interest in buying Manchester United.
