Rodrygo Reveals How Much the Club World Cup Means to Him
Real Madrid attacker Rodrygo has revealed that the FIFA Club World Cup is the competition that he has always dreamt of playing in as a Brazilian.
Real Madrid have already announced their squad for the FIFA Club World Cup clash with Al-Ahly, and Rodrygo is part of the squad that has travelled to Morocco for the fixture.
Speaking ahead of the Real Madrid vs Al-Ahly fixture, Rodrygo spoke about how much playing in the tournament means to him.
“As a Brazilian, it’s a very important tournament, one of the biggest. So I really want to have this on my resume.”
Rodyrgo also spoke about his childhood club Santos’ defeat to Barcelona in the final of the FIFA Club World Cup in 2011. “It’s not the best memory because Santos lost, but the tournament is still the biggest in Brazil. It’s like the Champions League in Europe,” Rodrygo said.
Rodrygo also revealed that he always liked Real Madrid more than Barcelona and that he dreamed of playing for Los Blancos.
“I think that when you identify with a club, sometimes it’s just that: you feel good and that’s it. And that was the case with Real Madrid. Although Barcelona was better at that time, I always liked Real Madrid more. I dreamed of being here, of playing here, and that’s the only explanation,” Rodrygo said. He added he is still in love with Real Madrid.
Real Madrid head into the game against Al-Ahly on the back of their shock 1-0 defeat to RCD Mallorca in La Liga. That defeat has left Real Madrid eight points behind Barcelona in the race for the La Liga title.
Meanwhile, the FIFA Club World Cup semi-final match between Real Madrid and Al-Ahly kicks off at 12:30 am Indian Standard Time on February 9.
