Sergio Busquets Says Barcelona ‘Angry’ as Club Knocked Out of Europa League

Barcelona midfielder Sergio Busquets believes their exit from Europa League will not take its toll on their season but admitted they are ‘angry’ they have been knocked out of the competition.

Barcelona squared off with Manchester United in a two-legged play-off tie for a place in the round of 16 of the Europa League. After the first leg ended in a 2-2 draw, the tie was to be decided at Old Trafford in the second leg.

Fred’s goal in the 47th minute cancelled out the 18th-minute opener of Robert Lewandowski. Manchester United then sealed the win and their progression to the Europa League round of 16 with Antony’s goal on 73 minutes.

Sergio Busquets revealed they are angry that have been eliminated from Europa League, but believes it will not take its toll on their season.

Barcelona have already won the Spanish Super Cup and sits at the top of the La Liga table with an eight-point lead. Sergio Busquets and co. also remain in contention for the Copa del Rey title.

We are on a good path, top of La Liga, we have the Copa del Rey (to come) … But we can still take another step to compete better.

Sergio Busquets also said their elimination from Europa League was not like their elimination from Champions League. The Spanish midfielder said the Europa League knockout play-off was against one of the most in-form sides in Europe.

They are different eliminations (this season). In the Champions League, we had no luck in the draw, then a lot of things happened in the games, it was incredible. We also have to say we were not at the level at certain moments, we have to be self-critical,” Sergio Busquets said after Barcelona’s elimination from Europa League.

This was totally different, a two-legged legged tie, against one of the most in-form sides in Europe, doing well in the Premier League, with great players.
