Thibaut Courtois Reacts to His Hilarious Error in Win Over Liverpool
Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois admitted that he messed up as his hilarious error saw Liverpool score a second goal in the UEFA Champions League round of 16 first leg.
Real Madrid had got off to a disastrous start at Anfield as Liverpool scored two goals inside the first 14 minutes. While it was a sensational goal from Darwin Nunez that sent Liverpool ahead, they doubled their advantage after Thibaut Courtois’ hilarious error.
The hilarious error Thibaut Courtois made would have probably been disastrous for Real Madrid had they not scored five goals to secure a 5-2 win over Liverpool in the first-leg.
Speaking after the match, Thibaut Courtois took the blame for the second goal Liverpool scored and explained how that hilarious error happened.
He added: “Vinicius’ goal gave us wind beneath our wings and then Alisson Becker had a moment like mine and everyone knows that, on the counter-attack, we’re strong.
“We’re never beaten, we always react. Those two quick goals did help us to do that. We were calm, mentally, and when we are on the rise we play well.
Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker also made a hilarious error similar to that of Thibaut Courtois’. The Brazilian goalkeeper’s attempt to pass the ball to Joe Gomez failed miserably when it ricocheted off Vinicius Jr and into the Liverpool net.
Real Madrid have now all but sealed their progression to the quarter-final of the Champions League. Liverpool, who now have a three-goal deficit, will need to pull off a miracle, as Virgil van Dijk said, to turn the tie around.
The Real Madrid vs Liverpool second leg will take place at 1:30 am Indian Standard Time on March 16 at Santiago Bernabeu.
