Thibaut Courtois Withdrawn From Real Madrid Starting XI After Injury
Thibaut Courtois: Real Madrid made a late change to their starting XI for their game against RCD Mallorca in La Liga, replacing Thibaut Courtois with Andriy Lunin.
Real Madrid will be hoping the injury Thibaut Courtois has picked up is not serious as the 30-year-old has been their undisputed first choice between the sticks.
Thibaut Courtois has featured in 24 games across all competitions for Real Madrid so far in the 22/23 campaign. He has also appeared in 15 of the 19 games Real Madrid have so far played in the Spanish top-flight in the current campaign (excluding their clash with RCD Mallorca).
Thibaut Courtois was not in the Real Madrid squad for the four matches he missed in La Liga prior to their match against RCD Mallorca.
The game against RCD Mallorca is the fifth La Liga match the Belgian goalkeeper has missed in the current campaign.
Meanwhile, Andriy Lunin has filled in for Thibaut Courtois whenever Real Madrid’s first-choice goalkeeper was unavailable this season. He made seven appearances across all competitions for Real Madrid in the current campaign prior to the game against Mallorca.
The game against RCD Mallorca is his eighth match for Real Madrid in the 22/23 season.
Meanwhile, Real Madrid will be aiming to earn all three points from their fixture against RCD Mallorca and maintain pressure on FC Barcelona. Real Madrid, who are the defending La Liga champions, trail Barcelona by five points in the points table.
Real Madrid have 45 points from 19 matches in the Spanish top flight so far this season. Barcelona, meanwhile, sits atop the La Liga table with 50 points from 19 matches.
Real Madrid were trailing in their game against RCD Mallorca by a goal at the time of the writing. Vedat Muriqi sent RCD Mallorca ahead in the 13th minute of the match.
