Tottenham Hotspur Has Identified a Perfect Replacement for Hugo Lloris
Lloris is currently 35 years old and is reaching the end of his spectacular career. He has made 400 appearances for Spurs during 10 years of service in England.
Atletico Madrid is keen to replace Oblak with Aston Villa’s goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez. As per reports, the Madrid club has valued around €30 million for their star goalkeeper. But Oblak will become a free agent next summer. That’s why Atletico is desperate to sell the Slovakia international in the January window to get a transfer fee.
Though Lloris is a consistent player and added great value after leaving Lyon. But Oblak is simply on a different level and an upgrade to their current goalkeeper. He is also considered to be one of the best keepers in the world right now.
The Slovakia keeper has the experience of winning the Spanish title, a Europa League, and finished as runner-up in the Champions League once. Conte’s football philosophy is quite similar to Diego Simeone’s, and Oblak will suit Conte’s style.
So, Tottenham Hotspur sporting director Fabio Paratici is looking to get him in a cut-price deal in the January transfer window. Oblak’s vast experience is what Tottenham needs to fill a great void of Lloris in the coming years.
While speaking to Football Insider, the former Leeds striker, Noel Whelan spoke: “Yeah, of course. Lloris isn’t getting any worse – but he’s not getting any younger.”
He also spoke about how Spurs have signed good players to cover every section of the squad but “Now all you’re looking at for Tottenham is maybe a center-back, a wing-back, and a goalkeeper”.
Whelan is also aware that the big European club will try to get him for free. Talking about the keeper’s abilities, he added: “He’s incredible and probably the one goalkeeper in the world that most clubs will want to go out and buy next summer”.
Lloris was linked to making a return to France in 2021 when his contract was about to expire. His current contract will keep him in the North London club until 2024.
Tottenham Hotspur tried to replace him with Gollini of Atalanta who came on loan last season. But he was not able to impress Conte and was not signed on a permanent deal.
