Uruguay Have Announced the 26-Man Squad for the 2022 World Cup

The winners of the inaugural World Cup in 1930, Uruguay will be making their 14th appearance in the tournament at Qatar 2022. Uruguay are in Group H, alongside South Korea, Portugal, and Ghana.

Goalkeepers: Fernando Muslera(Galatasaray), Sergio Rochet (Nacional) and Sebastián Sosa (Independiente).

Fernando Muslera has played 133 games for Uruguay since making his debut in 2009. He is expected to keep gloves for the South American nation in Qatar.

Defenders: Diego Godín (Velez Sarsfield), José María Giménez (Atletico Madrid), Sebastián Coates (Sporting Lisbon), Martín Cáceres (Los Ángeles Galaxy), Ronald Araujo (Barcelona), Matías Viña (Roma), Mathías Olivera (Napoli), Guillermo Varela (Flamengo) and José Luis Rodríguez (Nacional).

Barcelona’s Ronald Araujo has been included in the squad despite him being on the treatment table. Meanwhile, Captain Diego Gobin is likely to be playing in his last World Cup.

Midfielders: Matías Vecino (Lazio), Rodrigo Bentancur (Tottenham), Federico Valverde (Real Madrid), Lucas Torreira (Galatasaray), Manuel Ugarte (Sporting Lisbon), Facundo Pellistri (Manchester United), Nicolás De la Cruz (River Plate), Giorgian de Arrascaeta (Flamengo), Agustín Canobbio (Athletico Paranaense) and Facundo Torres (Orlando City)

Federico Valverde has impressed with his performances for Real Madrid this season. His form will be key for the South American nation during the tournament.

Forwards: Darwin Núñez (Liverpool), Luis Suárez (Nacional), Edinson Cavani (Valencia) and Maximiliano Gómez (Trabzonspor).

Liverpool’s Darwin Nunez will be playing in his first World Cup, while Edinson Cavani and Luis Suarez are likely to be taking part in their last.

Luis Suarez- The Veteran striker has been in brilliant form since moving back to his boyhood club Nacional during the summer. He has scored eight goals in 14 Uruguayan Primera División games for the Purslanes.

Darwin Nunez- After a slow start to his life at Anfield, Darwin Nunez has impressed with his performances in recent games. The 23-year-old attacker has scored seven goals and assisted two more in 17 games(in all competitions) for Liverpool so far.

Federico Valverde- The 24-year-old midfielder is currently among the best defensive midfielders in the world. He has scored six goals in 14 LaLiga games this season. Valverde won the LaLiga Player of the Month award in September.
