Virgil van Dijk Makes ‘Miracle’ Statement After Liverpool’s Defeat to Real Madrid

Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk made a ‘miracle’ statement after the Merseyside outfit slumped to a heavy defeat to Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League.

Real Madrid, who are the defending champions, would go on score two goals before half-time to restore parity. The Spanish behemoths then scored three goals in the second half to trounce Liverpool 5-2 in the fixture.

The heavy defeat has left Liverpool on the brink of Champions League exit. Speaking after the match, Virgil van Dijk admitted it is almost impossible to turn the tie around, making a ‘miracle’ statement.

Virgil van Dijk said Liverpool will need to pull off a miracle to get the better of Real Madrid in the Champions League round of 16, in a statement after the match.

We should have been more composed and calm in possession but, yeah, there was nothing wrong (with the performance) in my opinion. We didn’t give many chances away but in the end with the quality they have, they punish you, properly.

As Virgil van Dijk admitted, Liverpool have an almost impossible task of turning the tie around. The Merseyside outfit head into the second leg of this tie with a three-goal deficit.

Meanwhile, it was two goals each from Vinicius Jr and Karim Benzema and a goal from Eder Militao that helped Real Madrid inflict a 5-2 defeat on Liverpool.

Meanwhile, the second leg of the Real Madrid vs Liverpool tie will take place at Santiago Bernabeu. That match kicks off at 1:30 am Indian Standard Time on March 16.
