Xavi: Barcelona Have Not Decided Who Will Leave in the Summer

FC Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez has said that they have not yet decided who will leave the club and who will join them in the summer transfer window of 2023.

Speaking at a pre-match press conference ahead of Barcelona’s La Liga match against Getafe, Xavi insisted they have not yet decided who will leave the club in the summer.

Barcelona captain Sergio Busquets’ current contract with the Catalan outfit expires in June this year. The Spanish midfielder has not yet extended his contract with Barcelona and has been linked with an exit from the La Liga side.

Lionel Messi, meanwhile, has been linked with a return to Barcelona in the summer. The Argentine currently plays for Paris Saint-Germain but his contract with the French club is due to expire in June. He and PSG have not yet agreed on a contract extension yet, and it has led to speculation surrounding Messi’s future.

Xavi believes Sergio Busquets’ decision whether to extend his Barcelona stay or not would not depend on whether Lionel Messi returns to the club.

He said: “The most important thing for me is Busquets’ composure and that he helps us during the rest of the matches. I don’t think his decision depends on Messi’s arrival.

Xavi also said he and Barcelona will talk about renewing his contract after they win the La Liga title. The Barcelona manager said: “I’m happy, I talk a lot with the president, Mateu, and Jordi, and we have this confidence. Now, we have to focus on winning La Liga because we have to win it and then we will talk about renewing my contract.

Meanwhile, Barcelona leads the race for the La Liga title and are the outright and overwhelming favourites to win. Barcelona enjoys a 13-point lead over second-placed Real Madrid, who are also the defending champions.
