Xavi Lavishes Praise on ‘Best Coach’ Pep Guardiola
FC Barcelona manager Xavi has lavished praise on Pep Guardiola, describing the current Manchester City manager as the best coach.
Pep Guardiola is widely considered one of the greatest managers of all time. He is also a former teammate of Xavi and has also coached him at the Catalan outfit.
Pep Guardiola played for Barcelona senior team between 1990 and 2001. He was a Barcelona teammate of Xavi, who played for the Catalan outfit between 1998 and 2015.
Speaking to The Times ahead of Barcelona’s Europa League knockout play-off second-leg clash with Manchester United, Xavi was full of praise for Pep Guardiola.
Praising the Manchester City manager, Xavi said Pep Guardiola is a genius in every sense of the word.
Pep Guardiola became the Manchester City manager in 2016 and he still holds that position. Under the tutelage of Guardiola, Manchester City have so far won 11 trophies.
Xavi says he is not surprised by what Pep Guardiola has achieved in England. He said: “I’ve had him as a team-mate and as a coach, and I’m not surprised by anything he has achieved in England, because I knew he would make it.
“I would be playing and would think: we should be doing this because they are moving like this for that, and we would go down to the changing room and Pep would say exactly what I had been thinking.
“It was also fantastic how he prepared for matches. What he told you would happen, always happened. I have learnt a lot from him.”
