Xavi to Speak With Memphis Depay Over Dutchman’s Barcelona Future
FC Barcelona manager Xavi has said he will speak with Memphis Depay to see whether the Dutchman wants to leave the Catalan outfit or not amid speculation linking him with a move away from the club.
Memphis Depay has fallen down the pecking order at FC Barcelona and the Netherlands national football team attacker has been linked with an exit from the Catalan outfit in the January transfer window.
Atletico Madrid have reportedly identified Memphis Depay as a replacement for Portugal attacker Joao Felix, who they loaned out to Chelsea for the remainder of the 22/23 season.
Speaking at a press conference, Barcelona manager Xavi said he will speak with Memphis Depay to see if the 28-year-old wants to leave the club or not.
Xavi also insisted that he counts on Depay. “I count on Memphis for everything. Of course, it’s not an easy situation when you don’t play,” Xavi said.
Depay has only featured in four games for Barcelona so far in the 22/23 season. A thigh injury that he sustained also saw him miss a dozen games for the Catalan outfit.
In the four matches, he has so far appeared for Barcelona in the ongoing campaign, the Dutchman has scored a goal. He bagged that in Barca’s 3-0 win over Elche in La Liga.
Memphis Depay, meanwhile, was an unused substitute when Barcelona secured a 3-1 win over Real Madrid in the Spanish Super Cup final.
Depay joined Barcelona in the summer transfer window of 2021 on a free transfer. The Netherlands international signed a two-year contract with Barcelona. His current deal with the Catalan outfit expires at the end of the season.
Since joining Barcelona, Depay has featured in 42 games across all competitions for the Spanish behemoths and has racked up 14 goals.
