Chelsea news: Blues preparing a new offer for Wesley Fofana
Fofana has emerged as a top target for the Blues as they look to bolster their backline before the transfer deadline. The France youth international has established himself among the best defenders in the Premier League since joining the Blues from AS Saint-Étienne in 2020.
He has played 52 games in all competitions for the East Midlands club so far, scoring one goal. Fofana won the 2020-21’s Leicester City Young Player of the Season.
The 21-year-old defender missed most of last season with a leg injury. However, he is fully fit now and will look to book his place in France’s squad for the FIFA World Cup 2022.
The deal was considered dead last week. However, Fofana is desperate to move to Stamford Bridge and the deal is now being discussed through intermediaries.
Chelsea have had an eventful transfer window so far. They have spent over £180 million this window, making them one of the biggest spenders in the league. More fresh faces are expected to join them before the transfer deadline.
Fofana is an aggressive centre-back, who is known for his passing and tackling skills, along with his ability in the air. He played two league games this term prior to being excluded from the squad by Brendan Rodgers due to his exit rumours.
Chelsea is currently 12th in the league table with four points from three games. They will next play Leicester City and Southampton respectively in the Premier League.
Meanwhile, Leicester City have endured a difficult start to the season, failing to win any of their opening three league games. They will look to change their fortunes when they lock horns with the Blues.
