Manchester United Manager Erik Ten Hag Insists They Can Beat Man City
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has insisted they can beat Manchester City if they act as a team.
Manchester United returns to action in the Premier League by taking a short trip to the Etihad Stadium to face city rivals Manchester City.
The Red Devils come into the game on the back of four consecutive wins in the Premier League after a dreadful start to the season.
Man Utd had fallen to defeats in their first two games of the season – a 2-1 defeat to Brighton and a 4-0 humbling at the hands of Brentford.
At the pre-match press conference ahead of the Manchester derby, Ten Hag was asked how do Manchester United stop Manchester City striker Erling Haaland.
The Norwegian, who joined Man City in the summer, has been sensational for the Premier League champions. The 22-year-old has already racked up 14 goals for Man City this season, 11 of those in the Premier League.
Ten Hag insisted Manchester United is playing against Man City and not just Erling Haaland. He also expressed the belief they can beat Man City if they act as a team.
“I have to coach him and back him. I back him because I believe in him,” Ten Hag said. He added: “I can see his qualities. Quality is there. Almost 50 caps for England, and he has high potential. Then it is about him. We all believe in him.”
Meanwhile, Man City have had a good start to the 22/23 season. Pep Guardiola’s side sits second in the Premier League points table, only behind league leaders Arsenal.
Man City have 17 points from their first seven matches in the English top-flight this season. They are unbeaten in the league, with five wins and two draws.
Meanwhile, Manchester United sits fifth in the table with 12 points, having played a game lesser than Man City. The Red Devils will be aiming to close the gap on City when the two sides clash at the Etihad Stadium.
