Lionel Scaloni Quizzed About Lionel Messi’s Argentina Future
Argentina national team manager Lionel Scaloni was quizzed about the international future of Lionel Messi, who turned 35 earlier this year.
Argentina have qualified for the FIFA World Cup 2022 semi-finals after defeating the Netherlands in the quarter-finals. Lionel Messi once again starred for Argentina as they took a two-goal – one scored by and another assisted by the Argentina captain – lead before the Netherlands clawed their way back into the game to force extra time. Argentina eventually got the better of the Netherlands in the penalty shootout to seal their place in the semi-finals.
Argentina will take on Croatia in the FIFA World Cup 2022 semi-final. Croatia have sealed their place in the semi-final after defeating Brazil in the quarter-finals.
The ongoing World Cup could very well be Lionel Messi’s last appearance at FIFA’s flagship event. He is now 35 and will be 39 by the time the next World Cup kicks off. There are already speculations regarding Messi’s international future.
When quizzed about that, Lionel Scaloni said: “We will see if he decides to continue playing or not and if we can continue enjoying watching him play football.”
Meanwhile, Lionel Messi has scored four goals for Argentina at FIFA World Cup 2022 so far. He has featured in all five games Argentina have so far played at Qatar 2022. He has scored a goal each in four of the five games.
Messi will be aiming to inspire Argentina to defeat Croatia and book their place in the final of the FIFA World Cup. Should Argentina secure the World Cup title in Qatar, Messi will finally win the title that has eluded him so far in his trophy-laden career.
