Xavi Refers to Bruno Fernandes as ‘Portuguese Guy’ Ahead of Manchester United Clash
FC Barcelona manager Xavi referred to Bruno Fernandes as the ‘Portuguese guy’ when praising Erik ten Hag for getting the best out of his Manchester United players, including Bruno Fernandes.
Manchester United have been largely impressive ever since Erik ten Hag became the club’s manager in the summer. The Red Devils are the only English team remaining in contention for all four major prizes – the FA Cup, EFL Cup, Premier League, and Europa League – this season.
Speaking ahead of the match, Xavi was all praise for Erik ten Hag for getting the best out of players. Xavi particularly mentioned four players who Ten Hag has got the best out of: Jadon Sancho, Marcus Rashford, Bruno Fernandes, and Fred. But, surprisingly, he referred to Bruno Fernandes as the ‘Portuguese guy’ instead of taking the Manchester United attacker’s name.
Xavi’s ‘Portuguese guy’ Bruno Fernandes comment drew some eyes as some section of fans saw that as a dig – perhaps an inadvertent one at that – at the Manchester United attacker.
“He is getting all the talent out of his players. You see [Jadon] Sancho, [Marcus] Rashford, the Portuguese guy [Bruno Fernandes]. And look how Fred is playing . . .“
Meanwhile, the ‘Portuguese guy’ Bruno Fernandes has been a key player for Manchester United this season. The 28-year-old has been a regular fixture in the Manchester United lineups.
Fernandes has featured in 36 games across all competitions for Manchester United so far this season. He has also racked up seven goals and nine assists for the Red Devils in those matches.
Bruno Fernandes had also started for Manchester United in their 2-2 draw with Barcelona in the first leg. He could prove to be crucial for Manchester United in the second leg against Barca.
If Bruno Fernandes stars for Man Utd and they defeat Barcelona, it would be an additional reason for joy for the Red Devils faithful who have not taken Xavi’s comments too lightly.
