Carlo Ancelotti: Real Madrid Lacked Balance in 3-2 Defeat to Villarreal
Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti said his team lacked balance in their defeat to Villarreal in La Liga in their most recent fixture.
Real Madrid, who are the defending La Liga champions, suffered a 3-2 defeat at the hands of Villarreal. The defeat has further dented Real Madrid’s slim hopes of retaining the La Liga title.
Jose Luis Morales made it 2-2 in the 70th minute before Samuel Chukwueze netted the winner for Villarreal in the 80th minute. Real Madrid remains 12 points behind table-toppers Barcelona, who could extend their lead to 15 points if they defeat Girona in their upcoming match.
Speaking after Real Madrid’s defeat to Villarreal, Carlo Ancelotti said his team lacked balance and it was key.
Carlo Ancelotti also claimed Real Madrid did not deserve to lose the game but conceded they could have played it much better.
The Real Madrid manager said: “We didn’t deserve to lose although we could have played much better. Physically the team is fine and, having so many chances, we didn’t really deserve to lose but we lacked the balance we’ve had in recent games. We took the lead on two occasions and should have been more consistent. Our level in the league has dropped compared to last year.”
Despite the defeat, Carlo Ancelotti has not given up hope of Real Madrid lifting the La Liga title this season.
He said: “We’re not going to let our guard down. That won’t happen. There are 10 games left and we’re going to fight every game to get as many points as possible.”
