Arsenal Dealt Premier League Title Blow as West Ham Held Them For 2-2 Draw
Arsenal threw away a two-goal lead against West Ham as the Gunners dropped two important points in a blow to their hopes of lifting the Premier League title.
Arsenal traveled to London to take on West Ham, and they appeared to be heading towards a comfortable victory when they established a two-goal cushion inside the first 10 minutes of the game.
Said Benrahma scored that goal from the spot after the referee awarded West Ham a penalty for a foul by Gabriel Magalhaes on Lucas Paqueta. Bukayo Saka missed from the spot the chance to make it 3-1 for Arsenal in the 52nd minute after they were awarded a penalty after Antonio handled the ball inside the box. Saka’s effort was wide of the target.
West Ham then restored parity just two minutes later. It was Jarrod Bowen who scored the equalizer for West Ham in the 54th minute. Antonio came the closest of any player on the pitch to score the next goal of the match when his header hit the bar and went out of play.
Arsenal, despite desperately searching for a third goal, could not find it as West Ham resolutely defended to earn a crucial point from the fixture.
The result leaves Arsenal with a four-point lead at the top of the points table over second-placed Manchester City, who have a game in hand. Arsenal have 74 points from 31 matches in the Premier League so far this season.
Manchester City, who are the defending Premier League champions, have 70 points from 30 matches in the English top flight so far in the current campaign.
Arsenal will take on Southampton in their next Premier League game before heading to Etihad Stadium to square off with Manchester City in what promises to be a blockbuster clash. The result of the Arsenal vs Manchester City could prove to be very crucial in deciding the Premier League winners.
