This incident has mixed reviews, as former Anfield player Danny Murphy has criticised Arteta’s approach to managing his new youngster. Murphy thinks all spotlights from media will cause trouble in the development of this tender age talent.
The London club has defeated Brentford in style with a 3-0 scoreline and has reclaimed their top spot on the Premier League table again. All the goals came from William Saliba, Gabriel Jesus, and Fabio Vieira.
But the surprise came when 15-year-old Nwaneri came from the bench in stoppage time. This young prospect has become the young player to feature in Premier League History.
Though Arteta insists that Nwaneri “deserved” this moment, Murphy does not agree with Arsenal’s manager. In his opinion, Nwaneri should have been kept away from the public eye. He will develop better quietly. This stunt from Arteta may cause more harm than good in the youngster’s football career.
Murphy is optimistic about Nwaneri can become “a super-talent” in the future. But he thinks “other 18, 19 and 20-year-olds” should have been given chance. As he thinks that Arteta is “trying to keep a young superstar happy.”
On the other hand, Arteta has other thoughts in his mind. He revealed that he preplanned the young attacking midfielder’s debut match.
Arteta was watching the player, as he trained with the senior team a couple of times. And the manager was waiting for the perfect opportunity of introducing him.
Some of Arsenal players are missing the games for injury problems, and they only have a few midfielders left from the reserve squad.
On Sunday, the Spanish manager said: “He deserves it. He has been doing great. He is such a big talent we want to keep him with us.”
The next fixture is very important for both Arteta and his men, as they will compete against their arch-rival Spur in the upcoming fixture at their home stadium.
