Arsenal Transfer News: Arsenal May Face Competition in the Race to Sign Benfica’s Star Left-Back

Grimaldo made his debut against Cartagena in September 2011. He scored his first professional against Alaves in 2014.

The defender did not get the chance to feature for the senior Barcelona team, as Jordi Alba was in his prime moment in the left-back position.

At Benfica, he won three Portuguese League titles and made 169 appearances. He made his debut for the club against Moreirense which had a 6-1 winning result. To this date, Grimaldo has scored 20 goals and 52 assists for the club.

The Spanish defender is now in the final year of his contract and will be a free agent in the next summer transfer window. Benfica considered selling him this summer but has failed to do so. So, they will try to sell him again in the January transfer window to get a transfer fee.

Though the summer window is over, the transfer gossip and rumours are still going on. There are many players whose contracts will expire next summer, and their clubs will try to sell them in January at a cheap price to get a transfer fee. Alejandro Grimaldo is one of those players.

Arsenal can offer Europa League football whether Newcastle cannot. But one thing is sure Benfica will try their best to sell him in January to get a transfer fee on their prized asset.
