Barcelona to Construct a Statue of Lionel Messi Outside Camp Nou
After joining the academy of Barcelona at a very early age, Lionel Messi learned his football at La Masia. The Argentine then graduated from Barcelona academy and was promoted to the senior team. Messi did not need much time to establish his spot in the starting line-up. He then rose to be the greatest player ever in the history of FC Barcelona.
The Argentine won 10 La Liga titles, four Champions League titles, seven Copa Del Reys, seven Supercopa de Espana, three UEFA Super Cups and three Club World Cups with the Catalan giants. Messi’s love for his boyhood club Barcelona was unparalleled and it was thought that the Argentine will only retire in the Barcelona shirt. Things however did not unfold as he wanted
Despite Barcelona’s great on-the-field record, they were hugely mismanaged for a big part of the last decade. This led to financial turmoil which resulted in Barcelona being to register Lionel Messi’s contract. Messi had to leave his beloved club with tears in his eyes.
The situation was so bad that Messi was not even given a farewell match by his previous club. And now finally Barcelona have decided to do something to honour their best player in history.
During the recent general Assembly, last weekend Barcelona president Joan Laporta said, “We will build a statue of Leo Messi outside Camp Nou. The decision has been made.”
After his exit from the Blaugrana, Messi joined Ligue 1 outfit Paris Saint-Germain. Despite a tough start to his PSG career, the former Barcelona player won his maiden Ligue 1 title.
He had a great start to this season and has already scored eight goals for PSG. On top of that, Messi has provided eight assists for the Ligue 1 giants.
Messi’s contract, however, is going to expire at the end of the season. Hence there are many rumours about a possible comeback to camp Nou for the Argentine.
Amidst all this, the decision from Barcelona came. And it has now given fuel to the rumours and Cules are once against thinking that they will be able to witness their greatest player in the Baluagramna colours for one more time.
Messi is however currently composed about the whole situation and is focusing on the upcoming Qatar World Cup 2022.
After the World Cup, Messi will take a decision about his future. But currently, he only hopes to arrive in Qatar in the best possible shape.
