Brighton owner speaks out on Manchester City-linked Marc Cucurella’s future

Brighton & Hove Albion’s owner has recently been discussing the future of Manchester City target and Seagulls star, Marc Cucurella.

The Spaniard has seen himself linked with a number of top clubs of late, mainly Manchester City and Chelsea.

And the Brighton defender only fuelled speculation over a potential Amex exit in an interview at the end of May.

When discussing his future, he said: “If the opportunity arises, you have to take advantage of it.There are teams that you can’t say no to,” Cucurella told Gerard Romero

Elsewhere, it was recently reported that a deal to send Cucurella to Manchester City was close to being completed, with personal terms agreed and the two clubs in advanced negotiations regarding a fee.

This would represent Manchester City’s third summer signing, following on from Erling Haaland and Kalvin Phillips, rounding off, on paper, a very solid transfer window (Julian Alvarez was technically signed in January).

However, Brighton’s owner has all but killed off any hope which City fans had of seeing their side wrap up an imminent deal for the defender.

Speaking this weekend, Tony Bloom was full of praise for Cucurella, assuring that Brighton have not received a bid for the full-back:

“Marc is a tremendous player, a tremendous person. He’s brilliant for the dressing room,” he said. “The players love him, Graham and the coaches love him, I love him, the fans love him.

“He was unbelievably good last season, his first season in the Premier League. We’re hoping for more to come and we haven’t had a bid for him.”
