Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher reveals details of Thomas Tuchel phone call

Conor Gallagher has shared details of a phone call he had with Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel at the close of last season.

Gallagher was sent out on loan to Crystal Palace for the 2021/22 season. At the time, a move for the 22-year-old who had a mixed loan spell with West Brom the season prior made sense.

N’Golo Kante, Jorginho and Mateo Kovacic were all clearly ahead of Gallagher in the Chelsea pecking order, whilst Saul Niguez was also brought in from Atletico Madrid.

Since his move to Palace, the central midfielder has been one of the Premier League’s most impressive talents.

In 34 league ties this past season, Gallagher scored eight and assisted three.

He has since returned to Chelsea and is expected to fight for a place under Thomas Tuchel.

Ahead of the campaign getting underway, Conor Gallagher has shared details of a phone call he had with his current boss, in which he told the German he was ready to play for Chelsea:

“I said to him that I’m ready to play for Chelsea,” said Gallagher. “It was a phone call at the end of the season. Everyone was having some time off, so it was the easiest way to do it. It was 15 or 20 minutes and we both got out of the phone call what we needed. It was clear after that.”

When it was put to Gallagher that his direct style was quite brave, the midfielder added: “Yeah, I’ve got some older brothers. If you’ve got something you want to say or ask, then just ask because managers aren’t scary. They want to talk to their players and they want to know what your thoughts are and what you think. I told him what I thought and he said what he thought, and I think that was the best way to do it.”
