Christian Eriksen Reacts to Manchester United’s Exit From Europa League

Christian Eriksen said Manchester United’s game was not strong enough in their 3-0 defeat to Sevilla in the Europa League quarter-final second leg.

Manchester United were far from their best selves against Sevilla in the second leg. And, defensive mistakes proved too costly for Manchester United as Sevilla secured a comfortable win and progressed to the next stage of the Europa League.

Speaking after the match, Christian Eriksen said Manchester United gave Sevilla a lot of opportunities to finish them off. He also said that Manchester United made more mistakes than they normally do.

They were high pressure and we didn’t deal well with that. I think we made more mistakes than we normally do and personally or not, I think the whole team today, we couldn’t catch up on the mistakes the team made.

I don’t think it’s anything with that [the atmosphere], take away where we play, if we give away goals as we did today, we’ll lose. It’s nothing to do with the atmosphere, I just think our own game was not strong enough.

I don’t know why that was. It’s football, sometimes you have good days, sometimes you have bad days and today was one of those. We tried to do everything we could to avoid it, but we couldn’t and we have a game in four days for revenge.

Meanwhile, the defeat has ended Manchester United’s hopes of European glory this season. But they remain in contention for the FA Cup title and are also aiming for a top-four finish in the Premier League this season.

Manchester United will take on Brighton & Hove Albion in the semi-final of the FA Cup in their next game. The match between Manchester United and Brighton will kick off at 9:00pm Indian Standard Time on April 23.
