Enzo Fernandez Insists He Is Focused on Benfica Amid Transfer Speculation
Enzo Fernandez was part of the Argentina national football team squad that participated in the FIFA World Cup 2022. The 21-year-old featured in all seven games the South American heavyweights played in Qatar in 2022 as they lifted the FIFA World Cup title.
Benfica signed Enzo Fernandez from Argentine outfit River Plate in the summer transfer window of 2022. The Portuguese outfit signed the Argentine on a five-year contract.
Since joining Benfica, Enzo Fernandez has featured in 24 games for the Portuguese outfit and has largely been impressive. He has also scored three goals and made five assists for Benfica since making the move to the Portuguese club.
Manchester United, Liverpool, and Real Madrid are among the clubs rumoured to be interested in the services of Enzo Fernandez. The 21-year-old has a release clause in his Benfica contract, which reportedly stands at €120m.
Amid speculation linking him with a move away from Benfica, Fernandez has insisted he is focused on the Portuguese club.
Meanwhile, his current contract with Benfica runs until 2027. That means he has more than four years left on his current deal. But the transfer interest he has attracted from some of Europe’s heavyweights means he and Benfica are likely to part ways in the upcoming January transfer window or in the summer of 2023.
