Joao Cancelo Set to Join Bayern Munich on Loan
Joao Cancelo is set to join Bayern Munich on loan from Manchester City, according to a report in The Athletic.
The 28-year-old has featured in 26 games across all competitions for Manchester City in the current campaign but was an unused substitute in their last three matches.
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola left Joao Cancelo on the bench when the defending Premier League champions faced Tottenham Hotspur in the English top flight earlier this month.
The former Juventus man was once again left on the bench and unused when Manchester City secured a 3-0 win over Wolves in the Premier League. He was also an unused substitute when Manchester City defeated Arsenal in the FA Cup fourth round.
The news that Joao Cancelo is set to sign for Bayern Munich has surprised many. Joao Cancelo extended his contract with Manchester City only in February last year. His current contract with Manchester City runs until 2027. That means he has more than four years left on his current deal with the Manchester outfit.
Since joining Manchester City in the summer of 2019, Joao Cancelo has so far featured in 154 games for the defending Premier League champions. Of those, 26 appearances came this season. He has featured in 17 of the 20 Premier League games Manchester City have so far played this season. Cancelo started in 16 of those.
He has won the Premier League title twice and the EFL Cup once with Manchester City.
Meanwhile, Bayern Munich are long-time admirers of the Portuguese international, who is considered as one of the best full-backs in the world.
