Juventus Plotting a Move for Raphael Guerreiro

After spending some time in the academy of Blanc-Mesnil and Clairefontaine, Guerreiro joined the youth setup of the French team, Caen.

He then graduated from the Caen academy and was promoted to the senior team. The fullback played one season for the French side before joining Ligue 1 team Lorient on a four-year deal.

The left-back stayed three seasons at Lorient and then signed for Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund in 2016. Guerreiro has already represented Portugal in international football. The fullback was a part of the Portuguese side that won the UEFA European Championship. He also won the inaugural UEFA Nations League.

After dominating the Serie-A for over a decade, Juventus are currently going through a transition phase. They have failed to finish in the top three in their last two terms. And even this time, they have not got an ideal start.

The Bianconeri have managed to win seven out of their first twelve matches. With twenty-five points from thirteen matches, they are currently in fifth place in the table. Juventus’ performance on the European stage has been even poor.

For the first time in their history, Juventus lost five out of their six group-stage matches in the UEFA Champions League. This also includes a humiliating defeat against Maccabi Haifa. As a result, Juventus have been knocked out of the UCL and will take part in the Europa League.

Now Juventus management understands their situation very well. They want to reinforce a lot of positions in the upcoming transfer windows. One of them being the left-back.

Juventus’s current left-back Alex Sandro is in the final year of his contract. The Brazilian is way past his prime and will probably leave after this season. Hence, Bianconeri will need a new player in that position.

28-year-old Raphael Guerreiro has entered the final year of his contract. There are still no clear indications if he will extend his stay at Dortmund. Hence this has come as a huge opportunity for Bianconeri.

Guerreiro is still one of the best offensive fullbacks in the world. Signing him will surely give Juventus some much-needed quality in the left-back position.
