Leicester City News: Brendan Rodgers Explains Wesley Fofana Absence From Squad

Leicester City news: Manager Brendan Rodgers has explained why he dropped Wesley Fofana from their squad for the match against Southampton.

He had started for Leicester in their first two games of the Premier League 22/23 campaign. However, he was not in the Leicester squad for their clash against Southampton amid links with Chelsea.

Youri Tielemans, who has attracted transfer interest from Arsenal, was also not in the starting XI for their match against Southampton. The midfielder, however, did make an appearance off the bench.

When asked about the changes in the team, Rodgers said the players were not in the right frame of mind to start the game. He said it also was a change in the system.

“You can’t carry them, or certainly we can’t. So yeah, that’s the reason for the changes.”

Leicester City have already rejected two bids from Chelsea for Fofana. The Foxes are reportedly demanding a world record fee for Fofana.

Leicester wants in excess of £80m if they were to sell Fofana. That would make Fofana the most expensive defender in the world. Man Utd captain Harry Maguire is currently the most expensive defender in the world

Meanwhile, Leicester City lost the game against Southampton 2-1. The Foxes took the lead through James Maddison in the 54th minute. But Che Adams scored two goals to secure victory for Southampton. The Scottish forward found the back of the net in the 68th and 84th minutes to inflict defeat on Leicester.

Leicester City now has only 1 point from their first three fixtures. They kicked off their campaign with a 2-2 draw to Brentford. They then succumbed to a 4-2 defeat to Arsenal in their next game.

Leicester faces Stockport County in their next game, in the EFL Cup Round 2. Their next game in the Premier League is against Chelsea. They then face Man Utd in the game after that.
