Manchester City and Chelsea to Compete for Lionel Messi
Rising from La Masia, Lionel Messi became one of the best players in the history of football.
For the most part of his career, the Argentine was a part of Barcelona. He won everything possible for the club and left only when the Catalan giants failed to register his contract.
After his exit, Messi joined Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain on a two-year deal. The Argentine forward had a very tough start to his PSG career. He scored only six goals in his first Ligue 1 season which can be termed as poor from the incredible standards. However, he still managed to win the Ligue 1 title.
Lionel Messi had a brilliant start to the 2022/23 season. The Argentine has already netted nine goals and provided ten assists so far. He is finally looking like the Lionel Messi we have all known for years.
Meanwhile, Messi is once again nearing the end of his contract. If PSG fail to extend him within the next few months, he will become a free agent at the start of next season.
Manchester City are currently managed by Spanish coach Pep Guardiola, under whom Lionel Messi has played the best football of his life. The duo together took Barcelona to the pinnacle of world football.
The Citizens are thinking to achieve the same by reuniting Pep Guardiola and Lionel Messi. And due to the relationship with Pep, it has been understood that they are in the pole position to land the superstar.
Meanwhile, Chelsea have risen as another potential destination for the Argentine captain. Chelsea owner Todd Boehly wanted to sign a marquee player at the start of the season. It did not happen back then. But now with Lionel Messi, becoming a free agent, it is expected that they will go for the Argentine.
Meanwhile, PSG have already sent their first renewal offer to the Argentine forward. Messi however has not taken a decision. The forward will lead Argentine in the upcoming Qatar World Cup 2022.
This is also going to be the final appearance of Lionel Messi in the perennial event. After the World Cup, Messi will take a decision about his future.
