Manchester United Have Been Given Green-Light for a Move to Sign Cody Gakpo
Manchester United received a green signal for the move to sign Netherlands national football team and PSV Eindhoven attacker Cody Gakpo, according to a report in 90min.
Manchester United are reportedly looking to sign an attacker in the January transfer window after Cristiano Ronaldo’s exit from the club in November this year. Cristiano Ronaldo, who re-joined Manchester United in the summer of 2021, parted ways with the Red Devils, who terminated his contract by mutual consent.
That came following Cristiano Ronaldo’s explosive interview with Piers Morgan in which he criticized Manchester United and manager Erik ten Hag among many others.
Cody Gakpo has been impressive for PSV Eindhoven and Netherlands in the 22/23 season. The 23-year-old has racked up 13 goals and registered 17 assists for PSV from 24 appearances across all competitions so far in the 22/23 season.
He was also a key player for the Netherlands at FIFA World Cup 2022. He featured in all five games the Netherlands played at Qatar 2022. Cody Gakpo also scored three goals – one each in Netherlands’ three Group A games.
Gakpo currently has more than three years left on his current contract with PSV. He last renewed his contract with the Dutch club in January 2022. His current contract with PSV runs until 2026.
Man Utd will likely have to spend more than what they would have needed to in the summer of 2022 to land Cody Gakpo in the upcoming January transfer window. His stock has risen since last summer.
PSV Eindhoven are expected to part ways with the Netherlands as long as clubs interested in the player meet their asking price.
Meanwhile, Manchester United currently occupies fifth place in the Premier League points table. The Red Devils have 26 points from 14 matches in the English top flight in the 22/23 season.
