Manchester United news: Erik ten Hag Lavishes Praise on Bruno Fernandes
Man Utd news: Manager Erik ten Hag believes captaincy has given Bruno Fernandes an ‘impulse’.
Ten Hag had retained Harry Maguire as the Man Utd captain ahead of the new season. Maguire captained Man Utd in their first two matches of the Premier League 22/23 season.
However, after losing their first two games, Ten Hag dropped Maguire to the bench. And, in the absence of the England international, Fernandes led Man Utd against both Liverpool and Southampton.
Fernandes scored Man Utd’s winner in their recent win over Southampton. Diogo Dalot’s delicious deliver from the right was expertly converted by Fernandes to give Man Utd another three important points.
Speaking after Man Utd’s latest victory, Ten Hag heaped praise on Fernandes. The Dutch manager also believes the captaincy has given an ‘impulse’ to the 27-year-old.
“Today he brought the same on the pitch and the finish was really fantastic. I would also mention it was a team goal, we played it really well on the right side. I think it came out of a switch [of play].”
Fernandes will be hoping to carry his form into the next games. Man Utd now have six points from four games in the Premier League 22/23 season. They currently sit seventh in the points table.
Meanwhile, Ten Hag benched Ronaldo and Maguire for the second consecutive game. Ronaldo again made an appearance off the bench, coming on in the 68th minute. However, Maguire was again left as an unused substitute.
The Red Devils will be hoping to maintain their form going into the next game. Against Southampton, they were not at their absolute best, but they got the job done and earned all three points.
Meanwhile, Man Utd face Leicester City at King Power Stadium in their next game in the Premier League. Leicester have had a difficult start to their PL 22/23 campaign, and have collected only one point from their first four games. The match kicks off at 12:30 am Indian Standard Time, on September 2nd.
