Manchester United Transfer News: Frenkie de Jong’s Transfer Deadline Has Been Confirmed by Barcelona as Red Devils Finally Succeed
After spending months trying to sign the 25-year-old midfielder, the Red Devils have finally succeeded. Erik ten Hag has identified the Dutchman as one of his top transfer targets after working with him for four and a half years at Ajax.
Robert Lewandowski, Raphinha, and Jules Kounde are among the new players Barcelona has added this summer. However, for financial reasons, they haven’t all been officially signed yet. They must first clear some money from their budget in accordance with La Liga regulations.
Possibly Laporta’s best chance to do so is De Jong. Xavi, the manager of Barcelona, already has a number of centre midfielders available to him. Gavi, Pedri, Franck Kessie, and Sergio Busquets; a sale would result in one of the highest-paid players leaving Camp Nou.
Laporta recently told journalists, “We are doing everything we can to register the signings. We must complete it by August 13.”
Additionally, the president expressed “optimism” that all of Barcelona’s summer acquisitions would be registered before the deadline, adding, “Let’s hope that the league sees it that way too.”
According to Laporta’s remarks, a deal for De Jong might be finalised soon. Barcelona would also receive a sizable sum of money in addition to removing his wages off their books. The two clubs are rumoured to have agreed to a £56.2 million starting fee with a potential £72 million increase.
De Jong’s deferred compensation is the main issue. Barcelona is thought to owe De Jong £17 million in payments and additional stipulations. Despite having made several pricey additions this summer, the Spanish club is apparently having trouble affording this.
Barcelona wants the midfielder to either go or accept a pay reduction, despite the fact that he apparently wants to remain at the Camp Nou. Both of those choices lack appeal, putting an end to the narrative.
It has been suggested that United take responsibility for these payments, however, it is unclear whether this is lawful. If De Jong wants to join Old Trafford, he might have to write off the £17 million that is owed to him. To put it mildly, the situation is complicated.
Lewandowski, Kessie, Raphinha, Kounde, Andreas Christensen, and Pablo Torre are just a few of the summer arrivals for Barcelona that cost them more than £130 million in transfer fees.
Cesar Azpilicueta, the captain of Chelsea, is also on their shopping list. Tyrell Malacia, Christian Eriksen, and Lisandro Martinez are the three players United has signed so far this summer.
Following Sunday’s 2-0 victory for Barcelona over the New York Red Bulls, Xavi was asked about De Jong’s future. He said, “I don’t know if he’s going to stay, there’s still time and a lot can still happen. He currently works with the group alongside everyone else.
