Memphis Depay has criticized Barcelona for their treatment of their former manager Ronald Koeman. Barcelona appointed Ronald Koeman as their new manager in August 2020. The Catalan outfit parted ways with the Dutch tactician in October 2021. During his stint as the Barcelona manager, Koeman managed the Catalan outfit in 67 games. Barcelona won 39, drew 12 and lost 16 of those matches.
It was during Ronald Koeman’s stint as Barcelona manager that the Catalan outfit signed Memphis Depay on a free transfer after his contract with Lyon had expired. In his first season with Barcelona, Depay scored an impressive tally of 13 goals in 38 appearances in all competitions for the La Liga behemoths.
However, Memphis Depay fell down the pecking order at Barcelona in the 22/23 season and left the club in the January transfer window of 2023. The Netherlands international signed for Atletico Madrid in the January transfer window.
Ronald Koeman is the current manager of the Netherlands national football team. His second stint as Netherlands manager began at the start of this year, following the end of the FIFA World Cup 2022 campaign.
Meanwhile, Netherlands’ FIFA World Cup 2022 campaign came to an end in the quarter-finals. They took on Argentina and suffered a defeat in the penalty shootout after the two sides remained locked in a draw at the end of normal and extra time.
Argentina took a two-goal lead in that quarter-final match courtesy of goals from Nahuel Molina and Lionel Messi. But a late brace from Wout Weghorst saw the Netherlands claw their way back into the game. But they suffered a 3-4 defeat in the penalty shootout to the eventual winners of FIFA World Cup 2022.
Meanwhile, the Netherlands will be aiming to get their UEFA EURO Qualifiers campaign off to a winning start when they take on France. That match between Netherlands and France will kick off at 1:15 am Indian Standard Time on March 25.
