Mikel Arteta Admits Arsenal’s Victory Over Chelsea Was ‘Big Win’
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is hopeful their ‘big win’ over Chelsea will give the players even more belief.
After a goalless first half, Arsenal found the lead and what would prove to be the winner in the 63rd minute. Bukayo Saka’s wicked delivery from an Arsenal corner beat everyone at the near post and Gabriel nodded the ball home at the far post.
Arsenal then saw off the game to secure a deserving win, with the Gunners looking the better side all evening.
Speaking after the match, Arteta was asked whether the victory over Chelsea was a big win. Arteta admitted that it was a big win against top opposition.
Arsenal dominated the game against Chelsea, who looked like the second-best side throughout the match. The Gunners dominated possession with 56% of the ball. Arsenal also registered 14 shots, of which two were on target.
Chelsea, meanwhile, had 44% of possession and had five shots, but they could only register one shot on target.
Meanwhile, the win took Arsenal back to the top of the Premier League points table. Manchester City had briefly taken the spot after their 2-1 win over Fulham on Saturday. But Arsenal reclaimed the top spot with their win over Chelsea.
Arsenal now have 34 points from 13 matches in the Premier League so far this season. That’s two points more than what the second-placed Manchester City have so far earned in the English top flight this season.
Man City have 32 points from 13 matches, while Newcastle United sits third with 27 points from 14 matches. Tottenham Hotspur, who fell to a 2-1 defeat to Liverpool on Sunday, complete the top-four, with 26 points from 14 matches.
