Qatar World Cup: England Can Suffer a Big Blow
One of the key players of Southgate’s team, Kalvin Phillips is currently going through a very gruelling shoulder injury.
However, since then the midfielder played only 13 minutes for them in the whole season and is suffering from injuries.
Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips was earlier named in Southgate’s 28 man squad for the upcoming Nations League fixtures against England and Germany.
However, he is yet to recover from the injury and will not be able to feature in these matches
Since his debut in 2020, Kalvin Phillips has become an integral part of Southgate’s team. Partnered by Declan Rice the midfielder plays in the base of English midfield.
He was also a part of the English team that finished runners-up in the last Euro tournament. Phillips’ exploits with the national team earned him England’s 2020–21 Men’s Player of the Year.
However, since last season, the midfielder has been struggling with a shoulder injury. He missed a lot of competitive football in the recent past.
City’s medical team and Phillips are now considering surgery to permanently cure his injury. However, having the surgery will make him questionable for the upcoming Qatar World Cup. The World Cup will start on November 20.
Southgate will name his Qatar World Cup squad on October 20. Unfortunately for him, the way things are going right now will probably have to leave without his star midfielder.

Apart from Bellingham, Brentford forward Ivan Toney will also have a golden chance to secure his spot for the World Cup. The Brentford forward got his debut national team call up and is expected to feature at some point against Italy and Germany.
