Real Madrid’s Manager Carlo Ancelotti Reveals He Owes His Job to Sergio Ramos

Real Madrid’s manager Carlo Ancelotti said he would not be at the club today if it were not for Sergio Ramos, a former Los Blancos player.

Sergio Ramos currently plies his trade for Sevilla and is set to face his former side Real Madrid in the upcoming match. Ramos was a Real Madrid player for 16 seasons, playing for the Spanish behemoths between 2005 and 2021.

Sergio Ramos has worked with current Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti during the Italian’s first stint with the La Liga heavyweights. Ancelotti was the Real Madrid manager between 2013 and 2015 in his first spell at the club.

Speaking ahead of the upcoming Real Madrid vs Sevilla La Liga fixture, manager Carlo Ancelotti said he has a special affection for Sergio Ramos.

Carlo Ancelotti said he would not be the Real Madrid manager today if it were not for a goal Sergio Ramos scored in the Champions League 2013/14 final.

Real Madrid defeated Atletico Madrid 4-1 in the final but they had stared at a defeat for the majority of the 90 minutes. Diego Godin had sent Atletico Madrid ahead in the first half and Real Madrid could not find an equalizer until the 90+3rd minute when Sergio Ramos scored to take the game to the extra-time.

If I’m here today it’s because of Sergio Ramos. If he hadn’t scored the goal in the [Champions League] final, I probably wouldn’t be here. For that, and for everything he did for this club, everybody has a lot of affection for him… He’ll play well for sure. Let’s hope he doesn’t score but if he does, he can [celebrate] however he wants!

Meanwhile, Real Madrid have got off to a fantastic start in the La Liga 23/24 campaign. Carlo Ancelotti and co. sit at the top of the La Liga points table with 24 points from nine matches.

Sevilla, meanwhile, sit 14th in the points table. The match between Real Madrid and Sevilla will kick off at 10:00 pm Indian Standard Time on Saturday.
