Shay Given Wants a Fairytale Ending for Lionel Messi
After rising from the academy of Barcelona, Lionel Messi spent most part of his career with the Catalan giants FC Barcelona. The forward won every possible trophy for them before joining Paris Saint-Germain.
Lionel Messi had to wait fifteen years before winning a major trophy with his national team Argentina. He finally managed to win it when Argentina defeated Brazil in the Copa America final. Messi had a stellar tournament and finished as the golden boot winner, the highest assist provider and was adjudged the Most Valuable Player.
The Argentine forward then added another trophy to his cabinet, earlier this season. Argentina defeated Euro Champions Italy in the Finalissima. Although Messi did not score in the match, he assisted twice and was named the man of the match.
Now the only trophy that Lionel Messi has failed to win in his career is the World Cup. He will have a final chance in Qatar to fulfill his dreams. And former manchester city goalkeeper Shay Given want to see the same.
Argentina won their last World Cup when one of the greats of the game, Diego Maradona took them over the line in 1986. And for this moment, he is still regarded as probably the best in Argentina. Shay Given mentioned this and opined that Lionel Messi is the greatest player for him.
Given then explained that if Messi manages to win the next Qatar World Cup 2022, it will take his legacy even beyond Maradona’s. But even if he failed to do so, the Argentine superstar will still remain the greatest player ever for the former Manchester City goalkeeper.
Now winning the Qatar World Cup will not be an easy job for Messi. However one thing is for sure, Argentina will arrive in Qatar as one of the favourites to lift the trophy. Lionel Scaloni’s side has not tasted defeat in the last 35 matches. They are currently one of the most in-form teams in the World.
Similar to Argentina, Lionel Messi is also in great form. The Argentine forward has scored twelve goals and provided fourteen assists for PSG so far. He has also netted nine goals in his last three matches in an Argentine shirt.
The Argentine forward however has recently suffered a setback as PSG confirmed that he will not take part in the next game after picking up an Achilles injury. Fortunately for Argentina fans, Lionel Messi’s injury is not a serious one and he will mostly return within a week.
Now Messi will hope to return to his full fitness before the Qatar World Cup 2022 as the last dance awaits.
