Spain vs Germany Head to Head in FIFA World Cup

One-time champions Spain and four-time champions Germany are among the top contenders to win the competition. The European giants are in Group E alongside Costa Rica and Japan. Spain and Germany will lock horns against each other on November 28th at the Al Bayt Stadium. It will be one of the games to watch during the group stages.

They have also played against each other on numerous occasions in the past. On that note, let’s take a look at their statistics and head-to-head record.

Germany and Spain don’t have any direct rivalry. But they are among the top teams on the international circuit and matches between them often produce a high level of competitiveness and quality. The two teams have some of the all-time greats including Franz Beckenbauer and Spain Alfredo Di Stéfano.

As mentioned above, Spain and Germany have locked horns against each other 25 times till now. Germany have defeated their rivals nine times, while the Red Furry have registered eight wins. The European giants have also played eight draws between them.

Spain and Germany have played 25 times in the past. They first met for an international friendly in May 1935, and their last encounter was in the UEFA Nations League in November 2020. Spain registered a 6-0 defeat in that game, courtesy of goals from Alvaro Morata, Ferran Torres, and Mikel Oyarzabal.

Germany currently boasts four FIFA World Cup titles in their trophy cabinet. They lifted the FIFA World Cup trophy in 1954, 1974, 1990, and 2014.

Germany endured a 9-0 defeat against England Amateurs in March 1909, which is considered the heaviest defeat in their history.
