Vicente del Bosque Weighs in On Lionel Messi vs Cristiano Ronaldo Debate

Former Spain national football team manager Vicente del Bosque has weighed in on the Cristiano Ronaldo vs Lionel Messi debate and has named the latter as the best player he has ever seen.

Many players and managers – former and current – have given their take on the debate that has been going on for several years. The debate has not yet ended although Lionel Messi’s FIFA World Cup 2022 title win with Argentina has reinforced his stake for claim as the greatest footballer of all time.

Vicente del Bosque, the legendary manager who won the FIFA World Cup 2010 and EURO 2012 title with Spain, is one of the latest to weigh in on the debate. The 72-year-old, who has also won the La Liga and Champions League titles among many others with Real Madrid as a manager, has named Lionel Messi as the best player he has ever seen.

Speaking to Radio Marca, Vicente del Bosque heaped praise on Lionel Messi and also revealed he tried everything to get the attacker to play for Spain’s national football team.

The former Real Madrid and Spain manager added: “I tried everything to get Messi to play for Spain. However, Lionel refused because of the love he has for his country.

Meanwhile, Lionel Messi has been in impressive form in the ongoing 22/23 season. He has been stellar for Paris Saint-Germain, who sit atop the points table in Ligue 1.

Lionel Messi was also impressive for Argentina as they lifted the FIFA World Cup 2022 title. The 35-year-old scored seven goals for Argentina in Qatar 2022.

Meanwhile, Cristiano Ronaldo is currently a free agent after Manchester United terminated his contract by mutual consent in November this year. The Portuguese superstar has been without a club ever since.
