England vs USA: Gary Neville Criticizes Phil Foden’s Decision in FIFA World Cup Match
England vs USA: Gary Neville has criticized Gareth Southgate for leaving Phil Foden as an unused substitute in the England vs USA match in a Group B fixture at the FIFA World Cup 2022.
The Three Lions had kicked off their FIFA World Cup 2022 campaign on a stellar note, breezing past Iran in their opening match. Southgate’s men ran riot against Iran and secured a 6-2 win over the Asian nation to get their campaign off to a great start.
Southgate had opted for the same starting XI that started against Iran, and that meant Phil Foden began the game on the bench. The England manager had brought him on as a substitute vs Iran. But Southgate chose to leave Phil Foden as an unused substitute in the match against the USA.
Gary Neville also described Phil Foden as England’s best player and believes he should be starting games for the Three Lions.
“He’s a massive talent. I think he’s our best player and our best talent by a mile in this country. He should be starting in that team really,” Gary Neville added after learning Phil Foden was not in the starting XI for the England vs USA FIFA World Cup match.
As the England vs USA match wore on and the score remained goalless, Southgate did make substitutions. He made three substitutions in the match against the USA, bringing on Marcus Rashford, Jordan Henderson, and Jack Grealish in the second half.
Despite the disappointing draw against the USA, the Three Lions occupy first place in Group B.
England have four points from two matches and are a point clear of second-placed Iran, who have three points. The USA, meanwhile, have two points from two matches.
Meanwhile, England concludes their FIFA World Cup group stage campaign by taking on Wales in their third match at Qatar 2022.
